The committee will among other things formulate the theme and sub-themes; identify resource persons, prepare programme, mobilize participation and identify budget areas for the Media Summit.

It is  also tasked to consider the proposal by members to form a body that will bring together CEOs, Regulators, Chief Editors and Practitioners to lobby and advocate for the interests of the media fraternity in the region.

It will also study a report presented by the Media Council of Kenya and advise on the formation of the East African Media Council.

The Executive Secretary of the MCT, Mukajanga, who attended the Kampala meeting explained that the previous meetings were sponsored by the East African Business Council but it has now been decided the media fraternity in the region should own and take leading role to organize the meetings.

He said it was decided during the Kampala meeting which was attended by 25 media representatives from the East African countries that the media in the region should take their rightful position in reporting and setting the agenda.

He said that it was deemed pertinent that the East African Heads of States to have audience with the media leaders during their summit.
