The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) and the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) meet in Machame, Kilimanjaro from May 29-30, 2014 for the third Annual National Consultative Summit.

The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner, Leonidas Gama will grace the official opening of the summit which brings together over 50 managing and senior editors from all over the country.

A statement signed by the Executive Secretary of MCT, Kajubi Mukajanga stated that the two-day summit will discuss and review among other things, media practice, and trends in 2013, quality of media content and ethical conduct.

Other issues of discussion include the ongoing constitutional review process, particularly the constitutional guarantees on press freedom, right to information and freedom of expression as presented in the Draft Constitution.

The editors drawn from most media outlets on the Mainland and Zanzibar, will also discuss the role of the media in the forthcoming local and general elections and emerging challenges to editorial independence and integrity of media professionals.

Each year under its Editors’ participation and engagement activities, MCT organizes a high level consultative summit between the Council and editors from various media outlets to deliberate on pertinent issues regarding professionalism and ethical conduct, and to provide each other crucial feedback.

The retreat provides time for reflection and consultations, sharing of information and sensitization on matters of mutual interest.

The other meetings were held in Morogoro in 2012 and Tanga in 2013.
