MCT expresses sympathy to Mawio editor The Executive Secretary of Media Council of Tanzanian expressed sympathy to the managing editor of Mawio, Simon Mkina, following the government decision to ban his newspaper for two years.

Government urged to rescind ban on Mawio The government has been urged to rescind the two-year ban it has imposed on Mawio newspaper as the order contravenes the country’s constitution and the Media Services Act of 2016 which basically does not empower the minister for information to mete out such punishment.

The President of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) do hereby pursuant to Article 14 of the

MCT Constitution give notice to members of MCT that the 17th National General Convention ( NGC) of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) shall be held on June 25, 2014 at MCT proposed Headquarters Complex, Kimalang’ombe, Bagamoyo, starting from 9.00 a.m.

The proposed agenda at the NGC is as follows:

  1. Opening;
  2. Adoption of the Agenda;
  3. Confirming minutes of the 16th NGC held on June 25, 2013 at the Blue Pearl Hotel, Dar es Salaam;
  4. Matters arising from the minutes;
  5. Executive Secretary’s report
  6. 2014 Work Plan and Budget (for information);
  7. Appointment of the External Auditor for the period ending December 31, 2014;
  8. Election of Governing Board members;
  9. A.O.B;
  10. Closing.

MCT members who have not paid their subscriptions fees during the prescribed time are hereby reminded to do so promptly.

The NGC will be preceded by the Annual National Media Ethics Symposium which is slated for June 24, 2014 at the same venue. The theme of this year’s symposium is “Celebrating Pluralism: Two Decades of Evolving Media Diversity in Tanzania".
