Eighty four journalists have been picked as 84 nominees of the Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (EJAT) 2015.

This reflects an increase of 31 nominees compared to 53 nominees picked for the 2014 awards.

The nominees were announced by the Chairperson of the EJAT Organising Commitee, Kajubi Mukajanga at a press conference held at the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) on Aprili 12, 2016.

The nominees are contesting for awards in 22 categories - Economic and Business Reporting; Sports and Culture Reporting: Environment Reporting; Health Reporting; HIV/AIDS Reporting ; Children Reporting; Good Governance Reporting; Gender Reporting; Science and Technology Reporting;Investigative Reporting;Maternal and Newborn Reporting ; Education Reporting ;Tourism and Conservation Reporting; Reporting People with Disabilities; Best Photographer – Print; Best Cameraman – Television;Best Cartoonist;Agriculture and Agri-business Reporting; Sexual and Reproductive Health for Young People Reporting;Extractive Industries Reporting;Public Procurement Reporting and Taxation and Revenue Collection Reporting.

The winners of the awards will be known during the EJAT gala night on April 29, 2016.

The Chief Guest at the ceremony will be the Chairperson of the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance, Tom Bahame Nyanduga.

During the event a media practitioner who has exceedingly and outstandingly served in the profession will be awarded the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award (LAJA).

This will be the fifth time media practitioners are presented with the life time award which also carries TZS 10 million cash prize.

As for EJAT this is the seventh edition of the event since its inception in 2009.

EJAT 2015 partners are: Tanzania Media Foundation (TMF), Media Institute of Southern Africa - Tanzania Chapter (MISATAN), the Tanzania Media Women’s Association (TAMWA), the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF), the Media owners Association of Tanzania (MOAT), the Tanzania Sports Writers Association (TASWA), the Association of Journalists Against HIV/AIDS in Tanzania (AJAAT), Journalists Environmental Association of Tanzania (JET), HakiElimu, SIKIKA, BEST Dialogue/ANSAF, Population Services International (PSI Tanzania), Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA), United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), Evidence for Action and Amref Health Africa.
