The enactment of the new media laws have impacted negatively on the work of journalists in the country, officials of the Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) have noted.

The Executive Secretary of the Council, Kajubi Mukajanga and Programme Manager, Pili Mtambalike, said this has chilled the media landscape encouraging and promoting self censorship.

They were exchanging views with the new Head of Political, Press and Public Affairs from the British High Commission Marc Thayre who paid a courtesy call on the Executive Secretary of the Council on September 7, 2017.

Thayre who was accompanied by a senior Political officer from the High Commission, Sylivester Ernest was briefed on the work of the Council including its programmes areas and activities such as arbitration and mediation, press freedom violation register, safety of journalists and advocacy for better media laws.
